Fireplace

Many of the older fireplaces were completely open faced with no fireplace glass door or one of those iron chain fences you see in just about every new fireplace today. If you purchase an older home and there is neither, then you may want to consider getting one of these. Often older homes have hard marble or wood flooring and later get set up with carpeting, but the fireplace is not in use for the most part. When you find yourself in one of these homes and you do want to use the fireplace, keep in mind that wood often pops and sparks throwing shards of burning wood sometimes as far as 6 feet from the fireplace.

A fireplace glass door will give you the elegance of a wood burning fire but maintain safety. These doors can also block the heat if you simply want to see the flames without overheating the home. In many cases people will open the glass doors at first and let the heat come in, closing the chain fencing to make sure nothing pops out of there and causes a fire. When it gets warm enough to control the room temperature, but also maintain the beautiful fireplace look and feel, they will close the glass doors so the room doesn’t get too hot. You can also vary how closed the doors are to control the temperature in the room as well. The excess heat will go out the chimney so there is no danger.

You can purchase a fireplace glass door at your local home improvement stores, stores that specialize in furnaces, fireplaces, and wood burning stoves and of course there are plenty of resources online that offer a large variety of doors for any look and feel. There are many types out there all often fit a general fireplace size and shape, but differ in how their trimmed, how the door opens, and other things like adding vents to the top so you can control the heat while the door is fully shut by sliding a small metal vent at the top.

The journey in purchasing a fireplace glass door can be a lot of fun and enlightening. You may never have thought about this type of purchase and would be surprised how many different looks you have to choose from!
