Are Direct Vent Fireplaces the Real Thing?

Fireplaces have come a long way since the beginning, and in the last 100 years they’ve grown tremendously. Fireplaces are more than just a way to breed a romantic setting for your home, or a great source of light. They have been used mainly for the warmth of the fire for many centuries but lately we’ve fallen in love with their look and feel as well. How a fire looks is every bit as important as how much heat it puts off and today’s units are also gorgeous in appearance outside. One of the most popular units these days are the direct vent fireplaces.

What makes a direct vent fireplace a favorite is its ease of use, its warmth and fire that never needs maintenance, and its ability to fit into any wall. This is essentially a gas fire place that doesn’t use real wood, nor does it require any effort to light it up, you simply flip a switch or in some models turn a knob and light a match to get it started. It burns around artificial wood that in many models looks authentic. The fire surrounds the wood and often has rocks that heat up and turn red to simulate real ashes burning. Although some think that these direct vent fireplaces look fake, this is not true of all models. Some do have that look and feel of being artificial but many models you really couldn’t tell the difference behind the glad without a real good inspection of the unit.

This unit also is very low in pollution since it’s not burning wood but rather clean burning gas. The vent behind the fireplace leads to the outside so there is no need for a full sized chimney either. These are very efficient burning, as well as heating units for the home. Many apartments and condos have this type of fireplace. They are quickly replacing the wood burning units due to their maintenance free operation. They are simply turned on and turn off, with plug and play ease. It’s no wonder people enjoy them so much. For many homes this is the sole source of heat for the home. In others although equipped with furnaces that go in each room, in the direct vent fireplace can heat an entire one story home pretty efficiently to some degree.
